So baby let’s sell your diamond ring
Buy some boots and faded jeans and go away
This coat and tie is choking me
In your high society you cry all day
– Chips Moman, Bobby Emmons, as performed by Waylon Jennings
Reflections
It’s not a diamond ring we’re selling, but a 5 acre, forested property within 15 minutes of shopping and medical facilities in Colorado Springs. I mean, that’s a whole lot of a bigger deal than a diamond ring, regardless of the price tag, due to the fact that we live here. We eat, sleep, bathe, pray and love in this house. A diamond ring would be much easier to dispense with; a diamond ring doesn’t take up much space.
My Solution
We’re literally in the “buy some boots and faded jeans and go away” stage. Thankfully, we don’t need to buy the boots or faded jeans. Nor the tractor or chickens or dogs. But we’re ready to toss in the towel on the corporate BS and get in touch with our authentic selves. We are also done with the long, harsh winters and crowded strangeness in Colorado. We just need to pack up this stuff, finalize the touch-ups on this house, sell it and leave. Drive cross-country, 17 hours, with chickens and dogs in tow and start a new life.
Your Key Takeaway
Sometimes you have to give up something valuable — a material possession, such as a house, or an exciting Rocky Mountain lifestyle — to find freedom and live a more authentic, fulfilling life. Like Waylon singing this song, Mike and I are done with high elevation society and corporate BS and more than ready to pursue a new beginning. I hope that you’re ready to make the trade-offs necessary to move into your next phase to find a lifestyle more fulfilling.
